South Korea forecasts a 29.9% population decline by 2072.

South Korea’s Ministry of Statistics and Information predicts that the country’s total population will decrease by 29.9% from 51.68 million in 2025 to 36.22 million in 2072.

China’s Xinhua news agency recently reported that South Korea’s Ministry of Statistics and Information forecasts that the country’s total population will decrease by 29.9% from 51.68 million in 2025 to 36.22 million in 2072.

Amid a rapidly aging population and declining birth rate, the proportion of the population aged 65 and over to the total population is expected to increase from 20.3% in 2025 to 47.7% in 2072, and the proportion of the population aged 14 and under is expected to decrease from 10.2% to 6.6% during the same period.
